It is hard to be a scientist, especially when you try to balance it with your personal life. I have been in Atlanta for the last week for the Society of Neuroscience meeting. I had a poster presentation, which went very well considering this was my first time presenting a poster at a meeting that big (~20.000 people). It was a very tiring but also a great week. I saw an old friend from Turkey whom I had not seen more than two years. It was incredible to see him again, hang out and all. He was a great host as well (I was on the other hand a very shitty guest, but that’s another story). I met great people along the way. I wanted to get to know some even more but the time was limited. We made plans to get together for Christmas though, I think they will all come to New Orleans. Delicious

I have been listening to Evanescence for a week now. The new album has been out for a while and I am loving it! The sound is great, you almost want to say it’s classical Evanescence but it is not. Back vocals are awesome (Lacrymosa), the bass is better than ever and Amy Lee is still one of the best female vocalists out there. Kudos to Evanescence, go buy it, put it in your iPod and listen to it.

Another music related topic is the last night’s concert by the ever-greatest Scissor Sisters. Oh my god!!! What a fucking awesome night it was. We started off with dinner at the house of blues. Great burger. Then we entered the venue. The venue was not too big, so whereever you stand you can clearly see the stage, which is awesome. They started playing around 10pm and continued for an hour. Did i mention they were great? Later on, we even saw two of the members out in the quarter

Now, I have to focus on my term-paper and my cancer make-up both due on Monday. It will be a hectic weekend, but hey, they usually are.

This week was a horrible one. I was breaking down couple of times. Whatever I tried to do just didn’t work in the lab, and when you add the frustration factor about the meeting I am going in two weeks, it wasn’t nice. So of course, I went out last night, I needed some alcohol, and Lord I did get me some alcohol. We have recently discovered this little uptown bar around tulane, and they have Martini specials on froday nights. $3 a glass. I love me some chocolate martinis… I spend the whole day in myke’s couch but it was worth it.

I’m loving the new scissors sisters album. They are actually coming here on the 19th, the day i’m coming back from Atlanta. I am hoping to make it, as I had had so much fun the last time they were here. Give them a try you won’t be disappointent.

i can’t believe people are trying to earn money on my back (ok this sentence is quite wrong, but i’m gonna leave it as it is - no need to comment on it) by selling musicals that i used to sing back in old days (in all honesty, i wouldn’t buy those songs - not a great singer here), and i also can’t believe there are people trying to buy me on ebay or other sites. well, my dears, you need to learn that i am not for sale and you can never own me (unless you buy me a new car, a new loft in NYC; then i’ll be your slave and will sing whatever you want me to sing:)

This saturday we’re hosting the world premierre of the movie “All the King’s Men” and by we I mean my dear school Tulane. All the stars of the movie, including Jude Law (Baris, you wanna cum over for the weekend?:) will be here and hopefully Myke will be taking pictures so I can post them here. I am not going to watch the movie though because I am invited to a birthday party in the evening with free booze and food (well it’s hard to be wanted in every occasion) .

I’ve found this link today on The Daily Transcript. It’s an animation showing what’s going on in the cell at a very high magnification. I love the kinesin (stick-man like looking thing) carrying the vescile (the huge ball on top of it) and insertion of peptides in to the mitochondrial membrane (as in the picture). Watching this made me realize again why I do what I do. Eventhough I keep saying science is not for me, at the end I love what I am doing (i guess)…

On the last note, I am taking modern dance and I’m loving it. Tumay says the instructor is also giving hip-hop/jazz classes the next semester. Yay!!!
